The C-Max has a very complex charging system, and requires the battery to be in perfect condition. I've heard of problems like yours where swapping the battery for a new one fixes the problem, even though the original battery is apparently ok and works fine in other cars. Edited by: Ravenger Bad day today - Ford dealership told me they could not repair my 2013 C-max hybrid TCU module and power steering issues. Ford tells me that the TCU module has been draining the power system which has now compromised the power steering and that a replacement TCU module is not sold through Ford anymore and would be difficult to find. Better take it to Ford. I scheduled time with my closest Ford Dealer in Longmont Colorado. They spent 5 hours trying to diagnose what the problem could be. They came up with two potential problems: Battery Controller - $1,100 - $550 in parts, $550 in labor OR PHEV Battery - $13,500 they think. DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 22, 2018 – Ford is issuing two safety recalls in North America. Details are: Select 2012-15 Ford Focus Electric, 2013-15 Ford Fusion Energi and 2013-15 Ford C-MAX Energi vehicles for 120-volt convenience charge cords. Ford is issuing a recall for approximately 50,000 120-volt convenience charge cords originally provided This is done to maximise fuel economy. My theory on the battery drain (which seems to be the case on my C-Max) is that the faulty Glow plug relay is the cause. There is a known issue with the water ingress to the Glow plug relay module which I suspect only shows up when the engine is running. Please call Ford (both your dealer's service department & Ford's Customer Care line) and let them know you have had dead batteries twice, if you have not already done so. As you can see from the dead battery threads there are many of us who have had the same problem and we are trying to get Ford to figure out the cause and correct the problem. The recalled 120-volt cords, known as "convenience charge" cords, plug into conventional household outlets and were provided with 2012 to 2015 Ford C-Max Energi wagons, 2012 to 2015 Ford Focus Pull the Battery Terminal Connector towards you so that it does not touch the Battery Terminal when you release it. Wiggle and lift the Battery Front Cover (10) out of the way – it should come out easily. Loosen / remove the two 10mm nuts (11) that hold the Battery Retaining Bar against the Battery. Ford C-max owners have reported 120 electrical system related problems since 1996. Table 1 shows the 11 most common electrical system problems. The number one most common problem is related to the vehicle's electrical system (85 problems). The second most common problem is related to the vehicle's battery dead (12 problems).
